Original Inventions
Many people who know him would readily acknowledge that Steve Santini is a pretty creative guy.
In fact, Steve is certainly one person who does not believe in channeling his creative talents and
knowledge in only one direction. With Steve, it is all or nothing!
No more apparent is this than in the various inventions Steve has created to ensure the safety of the
men and women who work in law enforcement and the corrections field.
In the mid 1990’s Steve began to apply his master escape artist and locksmith knowledge to a variety of
original inventions to improve the security of law enforcement restraints and restraint related products.
To Steve’s way of thinking, “Who better to improve the security of restraints than a master escape artist whose
job it is to get out of them?”
Realizing that the standard duty handcuffs carried by North American law enforcement professionals had numerous
weaknesses that allowed prisoners to easily escape from them, (often with fatal consequences), Steve set about inventing
new restraints and devices to enhance the security, or lack thereof, of extant products.
The end result of Steve’s efforts was one product, (a metal security cover that blocked the keyholes of “hinged” handcuffs to
prevent unauthorized key or lock pick attack), and a plethora of unique handcuffs and handcuff protection modifications.
Steve’s unique security cover for hinged handcuffs was acquired by the Hiatt Thompson Corporation who put the device into
mass production. Widely known as, “The Blue Box 2”, it is currently being manufactured and used by law enforcement and
correctional professionals for high risk inmate transfers.
Today Steve Santini continues to advise and create for the law enforcement community. His restraint security inventions
have been profiled on the internet and in “Blue Line” magazine which is Canada’s national law enforcement magazine.
